2010 Year END REVIEW
Hello Everyone !
I would like to start off by thanking each and everyone of our guests that visited us at our lodge this past 2010 season. We had another amazing hunting and fishing season, once again. Although the weather wasn't the greatest for the summer months, guests still enjoyed the abundance of beauty our area has to offer and took advantage of the awesome walleye fishing once again.
We are very excited to announce the opening of our new cabin “Master Angler’s Getaway” this upcoming May. We completed the shell/exterior with huge deck in May 2010. Projects at lodge for upgrading cabins and campground are always ongoing to accommodate our guests in being a great place to stay.
2010 has marked a very exciting new venture for me as I have joined in the outfitting duties as a” full-time” guide along with Rick and the rest of the Agassiz Team. And yes, I am still cooking, cleaning and all the other duties that need attending to at the lodge. I have truly enjoyed guiding our hunters and sharing in the success of their hunts and memorable hunting stories this past season. One I have to share was from this past spring. While picking up one of my hunters from his stand was sooo funny, right “Lucky Luke” hip boots will never look the same again after 5 bears took a turn on sampling yours J My fault, Rookie mistake!! I walked in Luke through a swamp to his stand ( which he then asked who I ticked off to be stuck working this bait, as we were walking through the deep water) and left his hip boots at the bottom of his tree, not thinking black bears love rubber. Well 5 bears took turns on chewing these hip boots and I will never live this one down from the other guides, but it was funny watching you walking out from the swamp carrying the chewed up hip boots over your shoulder with a big smile saying; “I got one, but I couldn’t save the boots!!” I have never laughed so hard picking up a hunter as that day!! And of course I enjoyed meeting up with the guides/hunters back at the lodge to share in he stories from the day and especially every time Rick would pull up to the shop running out and saying “My hunters are done, what about yours??” I do have bragging rights for bringing in the largest black bear (600 lbs) and the biggest whitetail (179 B&C) this past fall, just kicking my husbands *ss, but seriously he is the one that sets everything up for me to make my job easy as a “guide”!! It is truly a rewarding experience as I have always shared in the hunting stories in the lodge with all the hunters and the guides, but hearing about them and actually being in them is totally different
May was extremely busy with bear hunters and fisherman. June was booked solid, as the fishing was incredible once again. We had fishing guests from all over Manitoba/Saskatchewan/Alberta and the
Even though the rain did not stop, fishing continued to be good throughout the months of July and August and into the fall. Our 9 th Annual fishing derby/pig roast seen a large amount of people once again through the camp and was a huge success.
As we carried on into our fall season, the black bear hunting was fabulous as well as our waterfowl season seen again a great abundance of birds. It was great to see “Tracker” our young lab back at his retrieving duties this past fall. He is 100% recovered and once he realized he was all healed from his unexpected ordeal last fall, he has been literally flying around camp with excitement of being able to hunt with waterfowl hunters again!! Old, but young at heart “Hunter” still things he is a pup during hunting season but doesn’t realize his body can’t do what he thinks he should be able to do. He still did get to retrieve birds for his hunters this past fall and did awesome as always, but has really slowed down. It is kind of funny with him aging as Rick and him seem to be getting grey at the same pace. Rick and Brendan and Jordan took Hunter out a few times to hunt and retrieve their birds and he had such an awesome time. This summer we will be announcing a new “addition” to the retrievers of “Team Agassiz” as we are awaiting the arrival of our new pup. We really can’t wait for “Tracker” to get his payback from always bugging the old boy “Hunter” in his young puppy stage. Tracker payback will be sweet; you will now know how it feels having a pup hang off your ears!!
Our sons Brendan and Jordan have really turned into amazing young men and have grown up way to fast. We are so proud of both of them!! They are both such huge helpers around the lodge and are a very big part of our family business and will continue to be for years to come. They can always be seen helping in the kitchen, or outside with their dad, cleaning boats, fuelling boats, helping cut grass, etc..This year Brendan will be turning 18 and graduating from Senior High this upcoming June and his plans are to pursue a career in electrical as well as guiding with us during the spring and falls. Brendan is finishing up his last year in Midget Hockey.
Jordan has been playing AAA Midget hockey this past hockey season with the AAA Parkland Rangers out of Dauphin, MB.
While at “The Lodge” you will experience home cooking at it's finest with our own specialty dishes being prepared like the “Famous All-Canadian goose Stir Fry”, which is requested by all year after year. For the outdoorsman/outdoorswoman who treasure the outdoors, few things are as memorable as a hunting/fishing vacation in
Once again thank you to all who visited us at our lodge this past 2010, as we truly had the chance to show you world class fishing and hunting at its finest. We enjoyed the company of past guests returning and new guests and created a whole lot of new memories while reminiscing on old ones, shared many laughs and just truly had an awesome time.
We look forward to hosting you on your upcoming 2011 hunting/fishing adventure.
