October 18, 2009

Water temperature on both rivers has dropped to +2 celcius.  Fishing remains hot  however, the fish are not real agressive as earlier in the fall.  Anglers who anchor over holes and jig lightly with frozen shinners are having great success.  The lodge will remain open for the fall fishing until Sunday, October 25.

Fishing guides and boat rentals are still available until next Sunday too , as we then start to gear up for the 2009 deer season.  This still leaves just over 1 week to still take advantage of some awesome fall fishing, and as every angler knows, a chance at catching walleye 28 plus inches is great this time of year.

Congratulations to long time guest Roland Mallot and friends on their master angler walleye yesterday that measured 28 , 28.5 and 29 inches!  We would once again like to extend a big thank you to all our our valued fishing and camping guests that had the chance to visit us  from all over North America this 2009 Season.  We appreciate your business and thank you for another successful season.

We look forward to seeing everyone for the 2010 world class fishing season.  Please remember that we are taking reservations already for the 2010 fishingécamping seasons.

Best Wishes and have a great Winter and a Wonderful Holiday Season, Rick, Colleen Brendan & Jordan Liske Agassiz-Waterhen River Lodge & Outfitters

September 26, 2009

The fishing for walleye, pike and perch are hot on both rivers.  Frozen shiners, beef heart and power baits are all working great.  Small wally divers and rapalas are working well too.  Water temperature is still 20 celcius which should make for some great fishing right till freeze up, as it starts to cool off a bit.  All boat lauches are in excellent shape.  Excellent catches by all of our guests are making for some great fish frys!  Campground and cabins are extremely busy so please call lodge for availability.

September 18, 2009

Fishing both Waterhen Rivers is excellent with limits of walleye being caught in no time.  Big Walleye are starting to run and MA's are starting to be caught, either drifting/still fishing or trolling. All colors are working great with frozen minnows or beef heart. With the warm temperatures so far in september, its looks to be another banner fall for fishing which should last till freeze up. Fishing guides are available so please call the lodge for details.

September 9, 2009

Fishing on the West Waterhen River is absolutely amazing as all anglers are catching limits in no time.  The Main Waterhen River is just starting to heat up and looks to be the same soon.  Frozen minnows, night crawlers, beef heart and power bait are all working great either trolling or jigging.  Walleye over 28 inches are being caught regularly.  Please call the lodge at 628-3491 for your fall fishing reservations.  Fishing guides, boat/ motor rentals, boat launching, modern cabins and serviced camping with shower facilities available. We look forward to seeing everyone for another world-class fall fishing season on the historic Waterhen Rivers

August 25/09

Fishing on both rivers is excellent. One river just before dark and the other pretty much all day. The bigger walleye are starting to run again as they start the fall run. Yesterday 4 walleye over 28 inches where recorded from our camp. All 4 where released. Frozen shinners, beef heart and power baits are all working best. Early indications show that the fishing in september and october should be world class just like past years. Please call the camp for daily updates.

August 10/2009

Fishing on the Main Waterhen River has slowed down a bit but anglers are still doing o.k. trolling slow or drifting with lindy rigs tipped with a night crawler, leech or berkley power bait. The West Waterhen River remains hot as most anglers are continuing to catch limits in no time trolling with a bottom bouncer and bright spinner tipped with beef heart or leeches. Anyone with a 12-16 foot aluminium boat with a 9.9 and up can fish this great fishery we have to offer. Boat launches too are all in top notch condition. It wont be long now as the fall fishing will start to heat up and get hot on both rivers. Congratulations to all the winners in the adult and kids categories as our 8th annual Fishing Derby/Horseshoe tournament/Pig Fest came and went. A big thank you to everyone who helped out and made the time to come out and support these events. Looking forward to next years already and hope to see you all real soon!

July 26, 2009

Latest fishing reports from guests fishing the West Waterhen River, is that it is hot, with limits being caught in no time.  Congratulations to longtime and repeat guest, Bev Perchak from Central Manitoba  for catching a 28" Walleye,  using a chartreuse spinner tipped with green power bait.   Chartreuse, green, silver and gold spinners tipped with a leech, nightcrawler, beef heart or power bait is still working the best. We look forward to seeing everyone this upcoming August Long Weekend for our 8th Annual Fishing Derby.

July18, 2009

Un-settled weather the last couple of weeks has seen the fishing both hot and cold.  Cold fronts with daytime hi's of 12-15C, with srong north winds has slowed fishing down from day to day, but working deeper holes is still paying off.  Trolling real slow with bottom bouncers and sprinners tipped with a leech or nightcrawler is working best.  Hammered Gold and flat silver spinners seem to be best right now. With that said, besides the cool weather, july has been a typical "july" for fishing. Knowing the river systems/lake and knowing how to fish it this time of year, fishing can still be un-real as witnessed and enjoyed by return guests, year after year. Remember, we also have the option for those that want to fish with our legendary guide and resident; Tony Lepere, available upon request. Tony has been guiding on our rivers for 50+ years and knows the rivers and history of the area better than anyone in the province. Please give us a couple days notice for his availability. Half day and full day rates available. The fishing is never slow when out with Tony!!

"RAIN or SHINE" we hope to see everyone Saturday, August 1st for our 8th Annual Fishing Derby.  Registration is from 8-10 a.m., derby starts at 9:00 a.m.  Horshoe tournament following at 4:00, pork with all the fixins at 5:00 p.m., with music and fire works.  Everyone is welcome, please remember to bring a lawnchair!!!

July 1, 2009

Happy Canada Day Everyone!!!!  Fishing still remains good on both rivers.  Leeches, nightcrawlers and beef heart are still working the best.  Just a reminder to everyone we still have limited camping available for our fishing derby, please call the lodge to reserve your campsight in our recently upgraded campground.  Our fishing derby is looking to be our biggest yet.  If you are requiring a boat, we still have a couple available for rent.  See you soon!!!!!

June 24, 2009
Fishing still remains hot on both rivers, however guests do not have to travel far as they are catching limits right in front of our lodge.  Spinners and jigs tipped with night crawlers and leeches and perch colored walley divers are all working great. For all our valued campers we have installed 30 amp service in our campground, please call the lodge at 628-3491 to reserve your spot.

June 16, 2009

Fishing for both walleye and pike, especially the walleye, is absolutely amazing right now on both rivers.  The last few days we finally have had hot, sunny days turning the walleye on!  To date, since the opening day, our spring bear hunters and fisherman have caught and released over 100 "Master Angler  (MA)" walleye (28 plus inches)!  Walleye between 16 and 22 inches are making for some good shore lunches.
Frozen minnows, leeches, night crawlers and berkley power baits are all working.  Still fishing, trolling and drifting are also all working with green, silver, chartreusse or a hot pink with a perch eye  being a favorite color to date.
Congratulations to some of the following MA'S:  Ashern guests (28 " & 30") same day, North Carolina boy Steve Riddle that beat out the Riddle from Minnesota (31") with a whopping 31.5", a young 14 year old fisherman with a 29", guests Homer and his gang from Virden with a 28" & 29", Gord Gray from Russell with a 28" and the boat right next to him with a 30.5", The Spicer Group from Swan River with 3 MA's in the same night going 30", 29", 28.5"(Sorry Grant maybe next year you will get an MA, maybe Grant next year your fishing guide Jordan will keep you out later than 4:00 a.m. to catch the big one, 3:30 a.m. is way too early to come in when you are fishing monster walleye)!!!  And last but not least our returning group of a great bunch of guys from Neepawa Old Timers Hockey Club with a whopping 29" and one that just missed at 27 3/4" and catching close to a 100 every evening between the whole group.
As a resident of Manitoba, living in the far North and other areas of the province and also guiding fly-in fishing operations, it doesn't get any better!  Take advantage while the bite is on in this beautiful and historic part of the province.  With the spring fishing being this good, the fall fishing is looking to be another banner of a season!!!!
Rip some lips,
Rick & Colleen Liske

May 31, 2009

Fishing is very hot on the main river.  Still fishing with jigs and frozen minnows, power baits and leeches are working best so far from 7 pm until dark.  Alot of reports of master angler walleye are also being caught with many going over 30".  Congratulations to the following black bear hunters this spring on catching their master anglers:  Brian Riddle, MN-31" & 28.5",  Luke Day, WI, 28.5" and Sam Roggow, WY, 29".  Fish from 16 to 20" are very common and make for a great fish fry.  The great walleye fishing, as witnessed once again by our black bear hunters, is another addition when getting their bears and witnessing world class fishing at its finest.

May 22, 2009

Fishing has been hit or miss so far as fish are late spawning with the late and cold spring,  Some big walleye over 28 inches have been caught and as soon as we finally get some nice weather, the fishing should pick up and get hot.  Silver or gold spinners tipped with a leech, seem to be working best so far.  Biggest walleye landed so far is 30 1/4 inches!  Live/Frozen Bait, Tackle, Ice, Fishing Licenses and Confectionary items are available at the lodge.

April 27,2009

Water levels look to be high on both Waterhen Rivers for the start of the 2009 fishing season. The fishing on the Waterhen Rivers has been world class the last four years and we hope that 2009 remains the same. Excellent enforcement and better management are making a huge impact as seen by the "MASTER ANGLER" walleye being caught and entered in the Travel Manitoba,Unreal Outdoors book. We will have all of our frozen and live bait, as well as, tackle, ice and licences available for the start of the 2009 fishing/camping season. We look forward to seeing all of our guests for another world class fishing season on the scenic and historic Waterhen River!

September 25, 2008

The fall fishing is heating up and getting hotter and hotter with each passing day. The last 4 years have been unreal on both rivers and this year looks to be no exception!

Lots of 20+ inch walleye and "Master Anglers" (28+ inch) are being caught. From now to freeze up this is the perfect time to catch a 28"+ walleye and qualify for the Travel Manitoba Master Angler Award Program (www.travelmanitoba.com). However, please remember to practice catch and release to these big breeders as they are very important to the future of this great fisheries. This time of year is the perfect time to enjoy the beautiful scenery as the leaves are now turning yellow, orange and red, and as we all know, winter is long enough, so getting out for that last memorable fishing trip to this historic part of the province is way worth it! Please call the lodge for daily reports and/or to reserve a cabin, boat or spot in our serviced campground.

P.S. Watch for nasty weather and heavy north winds as this usually shuts fishign down for 1-2 days.
August 8, 2008

Fishing for perch, pike and walleye are hot on both rivers. The best time on the east river is in the evening either jigging with a Waterhen Special or trolling with spinners tipped with a frozen minnow. The west river is hot pretty much all day and trolling with a spinner or drifting with a jig or Waterhen Special tipped with a leech or night crawler are working great.

Congratulations to all the winners last weekend in our 7th Annual Fishing Derby. We saw a record amount of entries and we saw over 600 people over the duration of the weekend come and go during the derby and pigroast!! A big thank-you to everyone who helped out during the weekend, fished in our derby and enjoyed our horshoe tournament & Pigroast!! Everyones support is greatly appreciated!! We look forward to our 8th Annual and hope to see everyone back again......

July 22, 2008

The fishing has not slowed down one bit as anglers are doing excellent trolling with spinners and bottom bouncers or drifting with waterhen specials tipped with a leech or nightcrawler. Reports of guests using lindy rigs tipped with small green frogs are working too. Also, it is a good idea to call the lodge for weather updates, strong north winds or heavy thunderstroms can slow the fishing down for a day or two. Remember only two more weeks until our Annual Fishing Derby on August 2, 2008. We are looking forward to seeing everyone.

July 1, 2008

"Happy Canada Day" everyone!!  The walleye fishing remains hot on both rivers.  Chartreusse and silver spinners or a combination of the two, tipped with a leech, seem to be working the best.  Walleye over 28" are still being caught as well.  As always, please phone the lodge for daily updates, or to reserve a cabin or a spot in our serviced campground @ 1-204-628-3491.

June 13, 2008

Fishing on the Waterhen River’s is hotter than ever. Like the past three years, lots of “Master Angler” walleye are being caught and released as well as the good eating size. On June 10, two lucky guests of ours caught a DOUBLE HEADER on MASTER ANGLERS!!!! That’s right, at the same time! One was 29” and the other 32”. Congratulations guys and thanks for releasing these two breeding walleye!!! Night crawlers and leeches are deadly right now.

June 5, 2008

Fishing on both the Main Waterhen River and West Waterhen are really hot.  Anglers are using bottom bouncers w/spinners tipped with a frozen minnow or leech.

May 20, 2008

Fishing on the Waterhen has picked up with limits of Walleye being caught in the evening.  Reports say best time is at 8:00 until dark.

Water levels remain at a high level. Most anglers catching are using bottom bouncers, spinners tipped with a frozen minnow while drifting the current.

January 25, 2008

The 2008 Fishing Season opens on May 10.  We are currently taking bookings for boat rental, cabins and campground.

Looking forward to seeing you all this upcoming 2008 Fishing/Camping Season.

October 15, 2007

Rumor has it that a 39” Walleye was caught on the river last week by a local cottage owner.  Local DNR authorities have confirmed this, however, I have never seen a picture so luckily DNR witnessed this monster walleye.  Reports also say it was released.  We thank all the fisherman that visited and supported our Lodge this 2007 Season and look forward to seeing all of you on the rivers/lake in 2008.

July 30, 2007
Alot of our big walleye have moved out of the river and back into the lakes, however many walleye between 14 - 22" are still very active in the river with fisherman catching their limits of good eating size walleye daily.  Many guests from the lodge this past weekend were catching 300+ walleye over two days of fishing.  We are gearing up for our upcoming Fishing Derby on August 4, 2007 which starts @ 9:00 and ends at 3:00p.m., and we are expecting over 200+ entries this year.  We look forward to seeing all our new and returning guests for this upcoming August Long Weekend.
Happy Fishing...........
Agassiz-Waterhen River Lodge
P.S.  Please watch for our future updates for when the fall fishing season hits with the big green backs!!!!!

July 14, 2007
Fishing on the West Waterhen River is unreal.  Biggest walley caught in camp last weekend was 28" by Yvette Giesbrecht of Morden, Manitoba.  Congratulations Yvette, the ladies are really cleaning up so far.

Fishing on the Main Waterhen River and the West Waterhen River are both excellent as anglers are catching limits of walleye in no time.  Silver/Yellow/Green and Gold Spinners seem to be the best right know with a 2 ounce bottom bouncer.  Water Levels remain extremely high as reports indicate the highest in over 50 years.  Frozen Minnows/Night Crawlers/ Leeches and Beef Heart are also working well.  White twister tails and power grubs are also doing well.

July 2, 2007
Fishing this past Canada Day Long Weekend was hit and miss.  Alot of guests found it really good, while some had a harder time finding the fish.  Lots of unsettled weather moved in that saw extreme winds and heavy rain most of the weekend.  Jigs tipped with night crawlers or leeches are working excellent right know, drifting or anchored.  The biggest walleye caught in camp this past weekend was 30" by Bernice Walker of Plumas, Manitoba.  The West Waterhen River is picking up, as most reports have been good.

JUNE 1, 2007
The fishing so far has been hot and cold.  Most anglers catching are using bottom bouncers, spinners tipped with a frozen minnow  while drifting the current.  Mornings so far have been the best time.  Since opening, many walleye over 28+ inches have been caught!  Please call the lodge for daily updates @ 204-628-3491
JUNE 18, 2007
The fishing has really heated up on the Main River.  This past weekend alot of Walleye over 28 inches were also caught.  Biggest one in camp this weekend was 31 inches, 12 pounds.  Both minnows and night crawlers are working best.  Silver Canadian wigglers are good too!  The West Waterhen River has still been hit or miss.
Water levels remain extremely high, making for the great walleye fishing.
